Installing ATCS Monitor

In this section:

Package Contents

The basic package of software you'll download is the ATCS Monitor program for monitoring ATCS and related CTC system RF Codeline, or to monitor EOTs. All downloads require a Yahoo login and membership to the ATCS Monitor group.

Installation Process

The following is copied from the table found at the Yahoo groups Applications download page. The items shown are in order of installation. Most of you will ignore items 1 and 2, since by now you are probably using Windows 2000 or Windows XP which include them. Everyone will install item 3, and the adventurous may find item 4 of interest.

Order Link Purpose
1 MDAC Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.5 or later is required for ATCS Monitor versions 2.3.0 and above. Read the MDAC installation notes carefully to determine the correct version for your system. Windows 2000 ships with version 2.5, and Windows XP ships with version 2.7. If you have a Windows 95, 98 or Windows NT system, installing version 2.5 or higher is required. For best performance, you should install MDAC 2.8 SP1 or later on all versions of Windows. ATCS Monitor displays an error dialog and terminates if MDAC is missing.
2 Jet 4.0 Engine If you have installed MDAC 2.6 or above, install the appropriate version of the Microsoft Jet 4.0 Engine for your system. (MDAC 2.5 includes Jet 4.0, but later versions do not). ATCS Monitor displays an error dialog and terminates if Jet is missing.
3 ATCSMonRelease.exe Current full release of ATCS Monitor. Simply download the file to any directory and click on it (or run it in-place). This file will also update an existing release while preserving all user data. Users updating a pre-3.5.4 version should pay careful attention to the pre-install advisories displayed during the installation process.
4 ATCSMonBeta.exe Current beta version of ATCS Monitor. Same rules as above. Not necessarily well-behaved, but feedback is requested should misbehavior be observed. Should you become unhappy with your decision to install the beta version, simply install the Release version and your former level of happiness should return:-)

First timers will get to item 3 and thereby have basic functionality of the application, to include the ability to monitor the default servers (the author's servers in southern California). This works because the installation includes the MCP information and layout. You can test this by beginning monitoring, described in the next section of the Wiki, YourFirstSession. Or if you have a specific target area in mind, be sure to read MonitoringInternetServers.

New users may also be interested in getting an updated version of the MasterDatabase of MCPs to apply to the new installation, which is not included with the application installation. The MasterDatabase also offers a master layout group.
